Central beats St. Mary's in district final
BY MIKE ROSENBAUM OF THE OBSERVER AND ECCENTRIC
Walled Lake Central took an early lead and never let go in a 35-27 Division 2 district final victory at Orchard Lake St. Mary's Saturday.
The Vikings (9-2) avenged a 35-26 loss to St. Mary's in last year's playoff opener. The Eaglets finished the season 8-3.
Steve Robinson's 71-yard first quarter touchdown put Central on top. Quarterback Torrey Stimson capped the first half scoring with a 21-yard touchdown pass to Jesse Caddell.
Both offenses were nearly unstoppable in the second half, as the teams traded touchdowns on the first seven possessions of the half. For the Eaglets, Dominique White scored on runs of two and 15 yards, while quarterback Justin Siller threw a 43-yard touchdown pass to Suave Lavallis and an eight-yard TD toss to Dionte Allen.
The Vikings responded with touchdown runs of two and four yards by Kevin Long and a 27-yard scoring pass from Stimson to Caddell.
Central advances to regional competition at 11-0 Davison Friday.
