Eaglets beat St. Francis easily

The St. Mary's Eaglets put together another strong game against Toledo St. Francis, making a statement of power on both sides of the ball on Saturday, Sept. 9.

St. Mary's beat St. Francis 28-0.

The Eaglets are 3-0 on the year, and St. Francis dropped to 0-3.

With 3:53 left in the first quarter, Eaglet Chris Mitchell ran 29 yards for a touchdown. Sean Graham kicked the extra point to give St. Mary's a 7-0 lead.

With 2:40 to go in the first quarter, running back Blair Hollis took the ball into the end zone on a 1-yard plunge for a touchdown. The extra point was blocked and St. Mary's took a 13-0 lead.

In the third quarter, with 5:12 to go, Dionte Allen scored when he caught a 12-yard swing pass, diving in the air between two St. Francis defenders. Mitchell ran in for a two-point conversion to give St. Mary's a 21-0 advantage. Hollis had an 8-yard run for another score.

According to St. Mary's Coach George Porritt, he thought his defense played really well.

"I thought our ground attack worked really well, too," he said.

St. Francis' two quarterbacks combined to throw 3-for-15, for a total of 37 total yards. The team finished with 40 carries for 159 yards.

Safety Justin Siller picked off two passes; the first returned for 17 yards and the second returned 40 yards.

Mitchell had 143 yards on 14 carries. As a team, St. Mary's had 37 carries for 236 rushing yards.

Siller went 6-for-11 through the air for a total of 98 yards at the quarterback position. St. Mary's had 336 total offensive yards.

St. Mary's tackles Dearborn Divine Child in the Catholic League Classic at Ford Field in downtown Detroit at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 16.
