Orchard Lake St. Mary's tuned up for its key regular-season test against Birmingham Brother Rice this week by completely dominating Dearborn Divine Child, 37-0, last Saturday. The game was played at Detroit's Ford Field and was part of the second annual Catholic League Football Classic. St. Mary's is 4-0. Divine Child dropped to 2-2.

The Eaglets led 35-0 after three quarters, which triggered a running clock. St. Mary's added two points on a safety when a Falcons' punt snap sailed into the end zone.
Divine Child not only never threatened to score, but didn't gain a first down until its final possession, playing against St. Mary's reserves.

Offensively, St. Mary's running game was in its usual high gear, with 329 team rushing yards. Chris Mitchell led St. Mary's with 136 yards, including two touchdowns, on 10 carries. Dominique White also scored twice while Blair Hollis crossed the goal line once. Quarterback Justin Siller completed 6-of-12 passes for 78 yards. The Falcons were limited to 26 nets yards of offense. Tom Shermatero received credit for the safety.

St. Mary's scored on four of its first five possessions in the opening half to take a 28-0 halftime lead. Three of those possessions included a fourth down conversion, including White's 42-yard touchdown run on a fourth-and-five situation. Mitchell's 69-yard run late in the third quarter set up White's second score, permitting the Eaglets to clear their bench in the final period.

The Eaglets face their toughest regular season test Saturday against 4-0 Brother Rice. The game will be played at Southfield-Lathrup. St. Mary's beat Rice twice last season before the Warriors turned the tables in the state playoffs, on their way to the Division 2 championship.
