St. Mary's trounces Ohio rival
by Mike Rosenbaum of the Observer and Eccentric
Toledo St. Francis tested a Catholic League power for the second straight week, and fell short again, losing at Orchard Lake St. Mary's Saturday, 28-0. The Eaglets are 3-0, while St. Francis, which lost to Brother Rice last week, is 0-3.
Chris Mitchell led St. Mary's ground attack with 143 yards on 14 carries, including a 29-yard touchdown run and a two-point conversion run. Fullback Blair Hollis scored twice, on runs of one and eight yards. Quarterback Justin Siller completed six of 11 passes for 98 yards, including a 12-yard TD toss to Dionte Allen. Siller didn't throw any interceptions, but he grabbed two picks from his free safety spot, and also contributed seven tackles. Defensive tackle Donald Coleman recovered a St. Francis fumble.
The Eaglets finished with 236 yards rushing plus 98 passing. St. Francis gained 159 on the ground and 37 through the air.
St. Mary's opens its Central Division schedule Saturday against Dearborn Divine Child, at Detroit's Ford Field, as part of the second annual Catholic League Football Classic.
