ORCHARD LAKE--In a driving rain for most of the afternoon, junior running back Dominique White rushed for 126 yards and three touchdowns and Orchard Lake St. Mary's had a nice defensive effort in defeating Novi Detroit Catholic Central, 28-7, on a chilly Saturday.

The Eaglets (5-1, 2-1 Catholic League Central Division) scored late to break the game open with two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, which pushed a 13-7 lead to a three-touchdown advantage.

OLSM coach George Porritt said the weather was the right conditions for football.

"That's football conditions," Porritt said.  "You have to play in that stuff.  We did a better job in the second half than in the first half."

St. Mary's outscored the Shamrocks (2-4, 0-3 CHSl Central) 21-0 in the final two quarters. The Eaglets scored their final two touchdowns with 10 minutes left to put it away.  White scored on runs of 1 and 27 yards, while he scored on a 2-point conversion on his 27-yard TD.

The Eaglets had their running game going, gaining 253 on the ground.  OLSM senior quarterback Justin Siller went 7-for-11 passing and didn't throw an interception before being lifted for junior Kris Morris late in the fourth quarter.

CC relied on the running of senior back Dan Foley and Foley responded with 73 yards on 17 carries.  The only problem was that the rest of CC's team has negative-5 yards rushing.

"I thought that made the difference," Porritt said of OLSM's ground game.  "We made the plays, and Dominique White was outstanding.  Our offensive line was outstanding."

CC went four-and-out on the first possession, as did OLSM.  The Shamrocks recovered a St. Mary's fumble 1:45 into the game, but didn't capitalize on the turnover.  CC also missed a field goal with 8:19 left in the first quarter to leave the game 0-0.

"That's all we can do at this point," he said.  "We're working as hard as we can.  I thought we played excellent in the first half, but in the second half, we had no gains.  They did a good job in the second half controlling the ball."

Senior OLSM back Blair Hollis put the Eaglets put the Eaglets on the scoreboard with a 13-yard run with five minutes to play in the first quarter, as junior kicker Sean Graham made one of his three PATs for a 7-0 lead.

Senior receiver Dustin Hess' 6-yard TD catch from CC sophomore quarterback tied the game at 7-7 in the second quarter.

Then White plowed through with an 11-yard TD score in the third quarter to give OLSM a 13-7 lead about five minutes into the second half.  OLSM outgained CC with 366 total yards of offense to 128 for the Shamrocks.

Mach was asked if the OLSM game is a rivalry game for CC.

"We've always had a rivalry with everybody we play," Mach said.  "It grows every year with (OLSM).  With Brother Rice, we've had a long-term rivalry, but again, we have a rivalry with everybody we play."
