U-M recruit aims to prove his potential
By Chris Silva of The Detroit Free Press
Boubacar Cissoko got straight to the point.
"I think this is the biggest season for me," he said.
Cissoko is a senior cornerback/return specialist/flanker for Detroit Cass Tech. He has already made a verbal commitment to U-M. He's one of the state's top recruits. And yet people continue to doubt him.
"People say I'm too short, I'm all hype," Cissoko said. "People say I've only been playing four years of football, so I can't be that good. So I'm going to come out this season and prove everybody wrong. I'm going to start out the first game with Dion Sims -- he's been talking a lot of junk about me, how he can check me, how I can't do this. ... Believe me, something's going to happen."
Sims is a 6-foot-5 wide receiver for Orchard Lake St. Mary's, which is Cass Tech's first opponent of the season. Cissoko is listed at 5-8, 174 pounds, and he will try to prove to doubters from Week 1 that his size isn't an issue.
Last season, opponents avoided throwing in Cissoko's direction, which would explain the one interception he had as a junior. Cissoko already knows every receiver he'll line up against this season.
"I've got my game plan already," he said.
Though he already knows where he'll play next fall, Cissoko is eager to begin his senior season.
"I want to put together everything I've learned since ninth grade, put it all together in one season," he said. "Come out and shut down every receiver. That's my goal. Every receiver. And make a whole bunch of plays for my team."
