St. Mary's set for playoff opener

Orchard Lake St. Mary's will play host to Detroit Renaissance in a first-round Division 3 football playoff contest Saturday. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m.

The Eaglets finished the regular season 6-2 after losing to Birmingham Brother Rice Saturday, 45-14.

St. Mary's and Renaissance (6-3) have two common opponents, U-D Jesuit and Detroit Cass Tech. The Eaglets beat Cass Tech (28-6) and U-D (42-14). Renaissance edged U-D (24-21) but lost to Cass Tech (21-14).

St. Mary's coach George Porritt said Renaissance is "very athletic. They've got good speed. They run the spread offense. They've got a good quarterback with good receivers."
