Davison, Orchard Lake St. Mary hope to keep football playoff hopes alive Saturday

Bill Khan | The Flint Journal

DAVISON at ORCHARD LAKE ST. MARY
When: 1 p.m. Saturday
Records: Davison 4-3, St. Mary 3-3
Last meeting: Davison 22-20 (2008)
Scouting report: Two perennial playoff qualifiers need a victory in this game to keep their postseason hopes alive. Both have gotten hot after slow starts, Davison winning three in a row after a 1-3 start and St. Mary going 3-1 after an 0-2 start. St. Mary has had the most impressive victories, beating Warren De La Salle 25-16 and Birmingham Brother Rice last week in a 34-27 overtime thriller. "We know we have two tough games in front of us, but we're still alive and we still have control of our own destiny," said Davison coach Jake Emmendorfer, whose team visits Holt (6-1) in the regular-season finale. Davison's last two victories have come with junior backup Mike Dolloff at quarterback in place of injured junior Jake Thompson, last year's Flint Journal Player of the Year. It is uncertain whether Thompson, who has an injured knee, will return this season. "There's a chance, but I'm not going to rush it," Emmendorfer said. "I'm going to make sure he's 100 percent ready to go. I'm not going to take a chance. He's got all of next year."
