1999 -- The Year in Review
Division IV State Football Champions (13-1)

OLSM 43 North Branch 0 at Pontiac Silverdome 8/28/99

St. Mary's opened the campaign with a 43-0 victory at the Silverdome. The Eaglet defense, led by the secondary with five interceptions, posted the shutout while the offense rolled to 339 yards and an impressive start to the new season.

OLSM 34 Detroit Country Day 14 at Country Day 9/3/99

The Eaglets exploded for 353 yards of offense as they defeated the eventual Division V State Champion Yellowjackets. Jermaine Gonzales to Maurice Searight became a familiar and formidable combination in the aerial attack of the Eaglets.

OLSM 38 Detroit DePorres 13 at Milewski Field 9/11/99

St. Mary's again rolled up impressive numbers on the ground (243 yards) and through the air (214 yards) as they held back the Eagles in a battle of rivals.

OLSM 41 Harper Wds. Notre Dame 0 at Milewski Field 9/18/99

The Eaglets continued to roll as they shut down the Fightin' Irish of Notre Dame 41-0. A 395 yard offensive day include four rushing TDs and a defensive effort that held ND to 113 yards in posting the second shutout of the year.

OLSM 30 Dearborn Divine Child 15 at Dearborn Crestwood HS 9/25/99

Jermaine Gonzales went 11 for 15, including a TD toss to David McDermott, as St. Mary's defeated the Falcons, 30-15. to remain unbeaten at 5 and 0.

OLSM 34 Warren DeLaSalle 7 at Roseville 10/1/99

Jermaine Gonzales threw touchdown passes to three different receivers as the Eaglets upped their divisional record to 2 and 0 with the win over the Pilots. The Eaglet defense led St. Mary's and held a strong DeLaSalle team to a single touchdown.

OLSM 47 Mdsn Hgts. Bishop Foley 7 at Milewski Field 10/8/99

St. Mary's took away seven turnovers from the Ventures and Bishop Foley lost the battle of field position as the Eaglets rolled 47-7.

Birmingham Brother Rice 63 OLSM 44 at Birmingham Groves HS 10/15/99

The Warriors and Eaglets engaged in an offensive shootout for the ages and the Warriors had more weaponry on this night as the Eaglets came up short for the only time this season. The loss propelled Brother Rice to the Prep Bowl where Detroit Catholic Central defeated them.

OLSM 60 Saginaw Buena Vista 15 at Saginaw Buena Vista HS 10/22/99

The Eaglets returned to the win column in preparation for the State Tournament and beat the Knights of Buena Vista on this cold night in Saginaw , 60-15.

State Playoffs/District

OLSM 42 Mt. Clemens Clintondale 24 at Milewski Field 10/30/99

St. Mary's opened tournament play with a hard fought 42-24 win over a very tough and talented Mt. Clemens Clintondale team to advance. Jermaine Gonzales exploded for 404 yards passing as the Eaglets rolled their way to 582 yards of offense, too much for the Dragons.

MHSAA District Championship

OLSM 51 Marine City 21 at East China HS 11/5/99

Orchard Lake St. Mary's moved a step closer to the state title as they outlasted previously unbeaten Marine City and the vaunted wing-t offense before 8,500 fans in Marine City . Running Back Anthony Sherrell led the Eaglets with 3 TDs on 12 carries (164 yards).

MHSAA Regional

OLSM 28 Chesaning Union 23 at Chesaning HS 11/11/99

No 1 vs. No 2 in the AP poll squared off and the Eaglets prevailed. Jermaine Gonzales led the Eaglets on an 83 yard drive with under 5 minutes to play as St. Mary's held off defending state champ Chesaning Union before another huge crowd of over 10,000 and moved to the semifinals with the Regional win.

MHSAA Semi-Final

OLSM 34 Battle Crk. Harper Creek 15 at Flint Atwood HS 11/19/99

St. Mary's ran into another wing-t team in Harper Creek but won again, this time by amassing 244 yards in the air as Gonzales went 12 for 18 with four more TDs in this one.

MHSAA Division IV Final

OLSM 34 Grand Rapids S. Christian 13 at Pontiac Silverdome 11/26/99

St. Mary's won its first crown since 1994 with the win. Anthony Sherrell again paved the way on the ground with 144 yards as the Eaglets Justin Rester led the defense with 13 solo tackles. OLSM finished the game with 444 yards to 235 for South Christian.
