2003 – The Year in Review (7-3)
OLSM 21 Harper Woods Notre Dame 0 at Pontiac Silverdome (1-0)
The Eaglets opened the 2003 season with a 21-0 victory over Harper Woods Notre Dame in the Annual Prep Kickoff Classic at the Silverdome. Senior fullback Casey Treadaway scored two rushing touchdowns and senior free safety Morgan Trent returned an interception 33 yards for a touchdown for St. Mary's. The staunch Eaglet defense limited the Irish to 22 yards rushing on 26 carries.
OLSM 23 Birmingham Detroit Country Day 14 at Country Day (2-0)
The Eaglets won a hard-hitting battle at Country Day in front of a large St. Mary's crowd to regain the Gridiron Classic trophy after losing it at home in 2002. Casey Treadaway and junior running back Malcolm Arrington scored on red-zone runs when Morgan Trent added another touchdown on a 34-yard pass from senior quarterback Brandon Cassise.
OLSM 61 Flint Beecher 21 at Beecher HS (3-0)
The Eaglet traveled North to Flint and crushed the Bucs of Beecher 61-21 in equaling their 2002 win output. Five different players scored for St. Mary's. Senior linebacker Austin Niemiec and junior defensive end Chris McLaurin paced the Eaglet defense with 6 solo tackles apiece.
OLSM 17 Dearborn Divine Child 7 at Dearborn Heights Crestwood HS (4-0)
The Eaglets continued their winning ways on the road by avenging their 2002 loss to the Falcons in a hotly contested affair at Dearborn Heights Crestwood. QB Brandon Cassise scored on two short sneaks after long Eaglet drives and senior placekicker Derek Hall added a 38-yard field goal to complete the scoring.
Detroit U-D Jesuit 10 OLSM 9 at Keyworth Stadium (4-1)
St. Mary's came up short in Hamtramck at legendary Keyworth Stadium as the Cubs beat the Eaglets 10-9. Turnovers plagued the Eaglet offense and stalled two promising drives. A late touchdown by the Cubs proved to be the difference for the second consecutive year after the Eaglets had scored and moved out in front 9-3 in the second half.
Detroit Catholic Central 35 OLSM 7 at Redford HS (4-2)
The defending Division I State Champion Shamrocks avenged the 13-0 defeat the Eaglets handed CC in 2002 by capitalizing on strong field position and a stout running game to overwhelm St. Mary's.
OLSM 10 Warren De La Salle 0 at Milewski Field (5-2)
St. Mary's returned to their winning ways with thunder following the CC defeat by hammering the Pilots 10-0 at OLSM's Monsignor Stanley Milewski Field avenging the previous year's loss. The Eaglet defense limited the Pilots to 71 yards of total offense in a classic St. Mary's defensive performance on a gorgeous afternoon in front of a large Homecoming crowd.
OLSM 20 Birmingham Brother Rice 0 at Milewski Field (6-2)
On a cold and blustery October Saturday the Eaglet defense remained perfect for four more quarters to record a second consecutive Central Division shutout at home, this time over the archrival Warriors with a 20-0 victory. Malcolm Arrington and Casey Treadaway again led the punishing ground attack for Coach Porritt's Eaglets and another great home crowd enjoyed a strong performance that qualified the Eaglets for the Michigan High School Athletic Association playoffs and the Catholic League Prep Bowl.
OLSM 33 Detroit St. Martin DePorres 28 at Ford Field (7-2)
In one of the most exciting Catholic League Prep Bowl Championships ever – and the Eaglets' first-ever appearance at Ford Field—the St. Mary's squad played to the end and escaped with a thrilling 33-28 victory over an exceptionally talented St. Martin DePorres squad that came into the contest undefeated. With 91 seconds to play in the game, DePorres scored to take a 28-27 lead. Junior flanker Zach Stogdill, who earlier had caught a 24-yard touchdown pass from QB Brandon Cassise, returned the ensuing kickoff 80 yards to DePorres' 10-yard line. Two plays later, with 38 seconds remaining, senior fullback Casey Treadaway burst into the end zone from three yards out to complete a thrilling victory. This championship shootout featured more than 800 yards in combined offense.
State Playoffs/District
Davison 42 OLSM 0 at Davison HS (7-3)
St. Mary's first state Class A/Division I playoff contest in school history came on a night when the Eaglets held Davison to short field goals on their first two drives to be down only 6-0 late into the second quarter. Davison, however, behind a strong running attack, scored two quick touchdowns and the rout was on. The Eaglets managed just 75 yards offense compared to the Cardinals' 427 yards. St. Mary's finished the season with a 7-3 record.
