2007– The Year in Review
MHSAA Division III Runner-Up
(10-3)

The 2007 Eaglets could have been considered to be “rebuilding” as the season began, having lost a ton of talent to the college ranks. However, as is usually the case, the Eaglets simply “reloaded” and talented sophomores and juniors stepped up.

The Eaglets were picked to finish 3rd or 4th in the CHSL Central Division behind Brother Rice and De La Salle. To the surprise of everyone but Coach Porritt, the Eaglets proved the soothsayers wrong.

The team stormed out of the gate, decisively beating Cass Tech, 28-6, Toledo St. Francis de Sales, 35-14, and Dearborn Divine Child, 42-14, before meeting Brother Rice at Homecoming. Given the two schools' history, everyone expected a tight game, but were stunned when the Eaglets crushed the Warriors, 40-21.

The Eaglets traveled to play a rare Sunday game at Catholic Central in the “Boys Bowl”, and after leading 10-7 at halftime, failed to score again and lost to the Shamrocks, 21-10.

The Eaglets rebounded to defeat Detroit Jesuit, 42-14, and De La Salle, 28-13, to set up a rematch with Brother Rice in the Prep Bowl A-B Championship. The Eaglets got a dose of their own medicine when the Warriors did everything right and won 45-14.

The beating humbled the Eaglets and they went into the state playoffs with something to prove. First, they destroyed Detroit Renaissance, 28-7, then St. Clair, 38-7, at home. The regional final was played at Melvindale where the Eaglets were the underdog. Proving that cold and rain also couldn't stop them, the Eaglets trounced the Cardinals, 35-12, to earn their first regional championship since 2004. The team played its semifinal match against East Lansing at South Lyon . Another triumph over cold, rain and soothsayers resulted as the Eaglets dominated the Trojans, 49-21, to play for the Division 3 title against defending champion East Grand Rapids at Ford Field.

The Eaglets and Pioneers traded punches for 4 quarters, and at the end of regulation were tied, 14-14. What happened next made history. No game had gone beyond 2 overtimes, but this game went 5, and it took a great play on 4 th down to deny the Eaglets a 5 th state championship. The team did themselves, the school, and its tradition proud, and all students, alumni and parents in attendance will not forget the team's valiant effort.
