Shamrocks Score Late to Defeat Eaglets

ORCHARD LAKE --Coming off a two-game win streak and hoping to get the better of archrival Detroit Catholic Central, the #1-rated team in Division 1, the St. Mary's Hockey Eaglets rallied from a 3-0 deficit to tie the Shamrocks after two periods on home ice on Saturday night. The Shamrocks scored twice in the first two minutes of the first period, but Eaglet goalie Shane Trexler regained his composure and stopped Catholic Central's shots for the rest of the period.  In the second period, the Shamrocks extended their lead on a power play goal at 14:29.  Senior captain Patrick Nagorsen scored the Eaglets' first goal at 10:04 on a power play off an assist from junior captain Alex Prough.  Later in the second period, Alex Prough scored an unassisted goal to bring St. Mary's within one.  Alex Charette tied the game at 1:18 left in the period off an assist from Jeff Petry.  In the third period, both team played a tight, checking defensive game, but with 3:21 left, Catholic Central's Wade Lafever scored the game-winning goal.  Doug Raymond added an insurance goal a minute later to make the final score 5-3.  St. Mary's outshot Catholic Central 33-23.
