St. Mary's breaks lengthy drought against Cranbrook
Eaglets had not defeated Cranes in last 12 attempts

When Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Kingswood forward Mike Fenkell's shot near the goal clanged off the crossbar just before the final horn sounded, Orchard Lake St. Mary's players quickly rushed onto the ice to release a lifetime of frustration against the Cranes.

Struggling so far this season, the Eaglets had every reason to celebrate their 3-2 home win over No. 1-ranked Cranbrook Kingswood on Tuesday, their first ever win over Cranbrook after previously going 0-11-1 against the Cranes.

Dropped from No. 2 to No. 6 in the recent Division 3 poll, the Eaglets (4-5-2) hope their historic win over the defending state champions can not only be a springboard for the rest of the season, but gives them an added shot of confidence should the teams meet again in the state tournament.

"It should be them and us again in the regional finals and it sets the stage for quite a game if it happens," St. Mary's head coach Brian Klanow said.
