St. Mary's Holds Off Portage Central

ORCHARD LAKE --After allowing Brighton to come back to tie on Thursday night, the Eaglets had to hold off a surging Portage Central at home to win 6-5.  Following a scoreless first period, Portage drew first blood in the second, but Patrick Nagorsen scored a short-handed goal off assists by Alex Prough and Jeff Petry to tie the game with 3:23 left in the second period. Nagorsen scored again with 32 seconds left in the period with an assist from Eric Roman.  In the third period, Portage scored two quick goals to take the lead, 3-2.  Krystian Dziubinski scored with 9:29 left with an assist from Shane Dwyer to tie the game.  Artur Kret scored the go-ahead goal with 5:38 left with Eric Roman getting his second assist.  Thirty seconds later, Shane Dwyer scored with assists from Kret and Zack Doyen to put the Eaglets up by 2.  Patrick Nagorsen scored his third goal of the night to put St. Mary's up by 3 in what turned out to be the game-winning goal.  Portage scored 2 goals in the last 2 minutes to come within 1 of tying the Eaglets, but ran out of time.  The win put the Eaglets' record at 6-6-2.
