St. Mary's Shuts Out Flint Powers

ALPENA --In what some thought might be a payback for last March's Division 3 Championship final, the Flint Powers Catholic Chargers found themselves outhit, outshot and outskated by the St. Mary's Eaglets in a feature game Friday afternoon at the Alpena Showcase.  The score, 5-0, was not indicative of the Eaglets' dominance, as Flint Powers goalie Shane Swanson had 42 saves to prevent what easily could have seen the imposition of the "mercy rule".

The Eaglets outshot the Chargers 13-2 in the first period, 15-5 in the 2nd, and 19-3 in the 3rd period.  St. Mary's goalie Joseph Savona was not tested as he stopped all 10 Charger shots.

Senior captain Alex Prough again led the way with a goal and 2 assists.  Clinton Bourbonais and Kristian Dziubinski each contributed a goal and an assist, and senior captains Shane Dwyer and Jon Connors had 2 assists and a goal respectively.  Junior forward Michael Fons saw his first action and had the lone 3rd period goal.

The Eaglets (2-1) play the Upper Peninsula's Negaunee Miners on Saturday afternoon.  The Miners lost to the Farmington United Flyers 5-3 in one of Friday's early games.
