DCC, OLSM square off again
By KEITH DUNLAP Of The Oakland Press
Entering a second meeting of the season with Novi Catholic Central, Orchard Lake St. Mary's must feel like it has the Shamrocks right where it wants them.
In the Shamrocks' home rink.
The last three times St. Mary's has played Catholic Central at home, the Shamrocks have prevailed, doing so twice last year and again on Nov. 18.
So maybe it will be advantage Eaglets when they take on DCC at 3 p.m. Saturday at Compuware Arena in a battle of two Division 1 powerhouses.
"They've been able to get the best of us in our building," St. Mary's head coach Brian Klanow said. "This game will be like all the others. It'll be a close league game. It's always fun to play good competition."
Following a win over Catholic Central in a regional final last March at Detroit Skating Club in Bloomfield Hills, the next meeting between the teams, on Nov. 18 at St. Mary's, wasn't as much fun for the Eaglets, who dropped a 3-2 decision to the Shamrocks.
"I think the nerves got the best of us in that first game," Klanow said. "We were really nervous and jumpy the whole game."
The first meeting also happened to be the first game of the season for both teams, so the initial rust for both teams should be off by Saturday.
"I think people are going to see a better played game by both teams," Klanow said. "The team that controls the neutral zone will probably win."
Just like last year, this will likely be the second of four meetings this year between St. Mary's and Catholic Central. The teams will likely meet in the CHSL finals in February and in the state playoffs.
