By Mike Rosenbaum of The West Bloomfield Eccentric

ORCHARD LAKE-- Birmingham Brother Rice scored a shorthanded goal midway through the third period to tie Orchard Lake St. Mary's, 3-3, Saturday, in the Catholic League's second-place game.

The Eaglets took a 2-0 first-period lead on goals from Billy Balent and Steve Tallman.

The Warriors answered with a pair of second-period goals. Nick Tinetti scored early in the period, then John Ebbing tied the game with a power play goal later in the frame.

St. Mary's got the lead back just 1:24 into the final period when Kasper Bryniczka put the puck top shelf for a 3-2 lead. But Rice tied the game on a two-on-one shorthanded breakaway. Brandon Contratto fed a streaking Brett Kroll with 8:38 remaining for the game's final tally.

Will Danko played in goal for Brother Rice, Joe Savona for St. Mary's.
