Red Wing Great Ted Lindsay to speak at Champs for Charity banquet

ORCHARD LAKE— Ted Lindsay, Detroit Red Wing Hockey Hall of Fame left winger who played from 1944-65, will be the guest speaker at the Champs for Charity banquet on Tuesday, November 25, 2008, at Orchard Lake St. Mary's, 3535 Indian Trail, Orchard Lake.

Lindsay, known as “Terrible Ted” during his days with the Red Wings, was an eight-time NHL First-Team All-Star. He captained the Red Wings to consecutive Stanley Cup championships in 1953-54 and 1954-55 and began a playoff tradition following that 1955 triumph, lifting the Cup over his head and leading a victory lap around the ice.

The banquet will be hosted by Orchard Lake St. Mary's and will precede the Champs for Charity game the next night between the Hockey Eaglets and the Marquette Redmen, the proceeds of which will benefit children through the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The puck will drop for the Champs for Charity game at 8 pm, Wednesday, November 26, at the St. Mary's Athletic Center Hockey Arena in Orchard Lake .

Last March, Orchard Lake St. Mary's and Marquette shared the Michigan High School Athletic Association's Division 1 Hockey title after an epic eight-overtime marathon ended in a 1-1 tie. The game marked the only tie in the history of Michigan 's hockey finals and was the longest high school hockey game in U.S. history in the number of minutes played. It also served as a rematch of the 2007 state final, in which St. Mary's took home the trophy with a 4-2 win over Marquette .

Tickets for the game are $5 and are on sale now at the St. Mary's Athletic Complex Ticket Office. All proceeds will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. For tickets contact Annette Knight at 248-706-4200 or by email at aknight@stmarysprep.com .
