ORCHARD LAKE—Each new season high school hockey coaches face the same problem, replacing players who graduate and move on to junior hockey and college.
The 2008-09 editions of the Orchard Lake St. Mary's Eaglets and the Marquette Redmen are no different.
St. Mary's coach Brian Klanow and Marquette coach Joe Papin are counting on last year's juniors and sophomores to take leading roles as the days count down to the opening game on November 26.
St. Mary's graduated seven seniors from its Division 1 Co-Champions, including All-State first team forward Billy Balent and goaltender Ryan Morley-Stockton, who had a championship game record 58 saves. Marquette graduated ten seniors from its Division 1 Co-Champions, including All-State first team forward John Aho and goaltender Jon Nezich, who had 33 saves in the championship game.
The puck will drop for the Champs for Charity game at 8 pm, Wednesday, November 26, at the St. Mary's Athletic Center Hockey Arena in Orchard Lake .
Tickets for the game are $5 and are on sale now at the St. Mary's Athletic Complex Ticket Office. All proceeds will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. For tickets contact Annette Knight at 248-706-4200 or by email at aknight@stmarysprep.com .
