St. Mary's loses weekend series to Culver

CULVER, IN--The visiting Orchard Lake St. Mary's Hockey Eaglets did not receive a warm reception at Culver Military Academy.  In fact, the Eaglets were decidedly cold, losing to Culver on Friday, 4-0, and on Saturday, 6-0.

With 40 minutes of penalties in what was a pretty tame game, it made it very difficult for either team to get into much of a flow in the first game of the series. Culver had two power play goals and a shorthanded goal and that was the difference. Cory Hibbeler scored the first goal on a power play in the first period, with assists from Sebastian Geoffrion and Bradley McBride.  The second first period goal was scored by Chris Darnell, with assists from Travis Montembeault and Zach Sternberg.

In the second period, Shane Vorndran scored on a power play off assists from Kit Sitterley and Cory Hibbeler.  Brice Geoffrion scored a shorthanded goal in the third period with an assist from Tyler Quartuccio.  Culver had 32 shots on goal and St. Mary's 22.  Culver goalie Jason Torf had 22 saves in 54 minutes.

Culver was 2 for 10 on power plays, and St. Mary's was 0 for 10.

Game two was over early.  Culver came out with lots of energy, opening a 4-0 lead by the midpoint of the first period.  Nic Dowd, Cory Hibbeler, Carson Womack, and Steven Hoshaw had the first period goals.

Carson Womack had a goal in the second period, and Steven Hoshaw another goal in the third period.

Culver had 45 shots on goal, and St. Mary's 14 for the game.  Culver goalie Connor Evans had 14 saves in 54 minutes.

Culver was 0 for 3 in power plays, and St. Mary's 0 for 7.
