Eaglets beat Chargers to advance

The Oakland Press

ORCHARD LAKE--Orchard Lake St. Mary's scored three times in the first period and sealed the victory late to beat Bloomfield Hills Lahser United, 4-2, in the opeing round of the pre-regionals Monday night.

Andrew Cloonan scored on a power play to put the Eaglets up early.  Chase Rogers of Bloomfield tied the score a couple of minutes later. Nick Czinder and Jonathan Kello scored goals to put the Eaglets ahead, 3-1, after the first period.  There was no scoring in the second period although the Eaglets had their chances with five power plays, including a 5-on-3, but Charger goalie Wade Henney stopped all 13 shots he faced in the period.

The third period was a seesaw affair as both teams killed penalties.  With 6:54 left in the game, the Chargers' Chase Rogers scored his second goal on a power play to narrow the Eaglets' lead to one.  The goal was the subject of much discussion as it was scored with multiple players in the crease, but was ultimately allowed.

Jonathan Kello scored an insurance goal on a power play with 1:01 left for the Eaglets off assists from Dane Muller and Matt Uhrin.

Eaglet goalie Max Oslund had 13 saves.

The Eaglets (19-5-1) play Clarkston in the pre-regional final on Wednesday at 8 pm.

Bloomfield Hills Lahser United finishes the season at 17-3-5.
