Michael Shelton -- Spinal Column Newsweekly

ORCHARD LAKE--Orchard Lake St. Mary's is red hot heading into the state tournament — having won five consecutive games — as it seeks its third straight state championship.

The Eaglets (18-5-1) began last week's play with a 4-1 victory over Farmington at the Farmington Hills Ice Arena on Wednesday, Feb. 18.

Jordan Kieltyka scored St. Mary's first goal in the first period, before Mitch Hall tied the game for Farmington.

The second period was scoreless, as Farmington hung tough against the Eaglets.

Dane Muller then broke the tie for St. Mary's at a minute into the third period.

Kieltyka added his second goal later in the period before Cody Loyer scored an empty-netter to put the game away.

Shane Halaas had two assists for St. Mary's, while Muller, Jonathan Kello and Cody King each had an assist.

The Eaglets then returned home on Saturday, Feb. 21 for the Catholic League Showcase against Birmingham Brother Rice.

The game was scoreless for two periods before Kello and Loyer each scored in the third period to give the Eaglets a 2-0 shutout victory.

Max Oslund made 17 saves in net for St. Mary's, who will open the MHSAA pre-regional playoffs at home against Bloomfield Hills United on Monday, March 2.

The winner will face the winner of the West Bloomfield/Clarkston game for the pre-regional championship on Wednesday, March 4.
