St. Mary's and Trenton tie in Showcase

TRENTON -- In a battle of two of Michigan's best high school hockey teams, the Trenton Trojans and Orchard Lake St. Mary's Eaglets skated to a 2-2 tie on Friday night at the MIPL Prep Showcase.

After a scoreless first period, Martin Gruse of Trenton scored with 15:16 gone in the second period.

St. Mary's Jon Kello scored to tie the game with 3:53 gone in the third period. Blake Rusnak of the Trojans scored to regain the lead with 9:52 gone in the period. St. Mary's Kello scored his second goal of the game on a power play to tie the game with 11:02 gone in the period. There were no goals scored by either team in the overtime period.

St. Mary's Zak Thompson assisted on each of Kello's goals.

St. Mary's goalkeeper Joseph Janiga had 23 saves, while Trenton's Blake Wojtala had 31 in 59 minutes.
