Vanderburg and Shane Bednard scored for St. Mary's in the second period to extend the lead to 5-2.
The Huskies' Lewis Nowakowski scored early in the third period to bring Port Huron Northern within two, but Vanderburg got his hat trick off an assist from Cody Milan for the final margin.
