Zerbo's hat trick leads St. Mary's into regional final

ORCHARD LAKE -- Alex Zerbo's three goals and an assist powered Orchard Lake St. Mary's Ice Eaglets to a 6-2 victory over Birmingham Unified in a MHSAA Division 1 pre-regional final on Wednesday night.

Kevin Wilberding scored midway through the first period to put Birmingham Unified on the board first.

Scott Walter of Orchard Lake St. Mary's tied the game early in the second period to start a three-goal run for the Eaglets.

Danny Patterson of Birmingham Unified scored on a 5-on-3 power play early in the third period to make it a one-goal game before Zerbo scored power play and even strength goals within a 30-second span to put the game away for the Eaglets. Tanner Pond added a goal and an assist for St. Mary's (19-5-2). Cody Loyer added a goal for the Eaglets and Ian Brambs had three assists.

St. Mary's meets the winner of the Troy-Rochester United game on Saturday at 8 pm at Orchard Lake.
