St. Mary's nips Brother Rice

ORCHARD LAKE -- Orchard Lake St. Mary's scored twice in the final minute to beat Birmingham Brother Rice, 5-4, in the Catholic League Hockey Showcase on Sunday.

St. Mary's jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals by Trevor Bardallis and Jacob Smyth, with assists by Christian Black and Shane Bednard.  Bardallis had an unassisted goal to stake a 3-1 lead at the end of the 1st period.

Brother Rice scored the next three goals to take a 4-3 lead with 3:35 left in the 3rd period.  

However, Alan Boozer scored the tying goal with 46 seconds to go (assisted by Christian Black), and then Boozer assisted on Mitchel Vanderburg's winning goal with 27 seconds remaining.

Shots were 31-22 Brother Rice.
