Schupbach's goal in OT beats Forest Hills Central
HOLT--In a seesaw battle between No. 3-ranked Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central and No. 5-ranked Orchard Lake St. Mary's, the Division 2 state semifinal game was tied at the end of each quarter and at the end of regulation. Drew Schupbach's goal in overtime won it for the Eaglets, 13-12.
St. Mary's advances to the state championship game against two-time defending champion East Grand Rapids on Saturday, June 6, 2009, at 5 pm, at Troy Athens High School. East Grand Rapids beat Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook, 12-9.
Down 12-10 with 2:30 left in the contest, the Eaglets scored to come within one, and then with 25 seconds left in regulation, Tom Pellerito scored the tying goal to send the game into overtime, setting the stage for Schupbach's game-winner.
Schupbach scored three goals for St. Mary’s (18-4), and Ian Brambs added four goals and three assists. Tom Pellerito had two goals and an assist, along with goals by Scott Koenigsknecht, James Maher, Taylor Docking, and Alex Houck.
Goalie Adam Hatchard had 8 saves for St. Mary's, until relieved by Cameron Schulze, who had 2 saves.
Forest Hills Central was led by Thomas Sible who scored three goals with two assists.
Forest Hills Central finishes its season at 15-5.
