St. Mary's advances to regional final

PONTIAC--Orchard Lake St. Mary's advanced to Saturday's Division 2 regional final with an 8-4 victory over Pontiac Notre Dame Prep on Wednesday.

After a scoreless first period, the Eaglets outscored the Fighting Irish, 3-1, to take a two-goal lead at halftime. St. Mary's scored again in the third for a 4-1 lead, and then again early in the final period to take a four-goal lead. The Fighting Irish came to life, taking advantage of Eaglet defensive lapses and penalties to score three goals and make it a one-goal game with four minutes left. St. Mary's regained its composure and control of the game, and buried the Irish with three goals in the last two minutes for the victory.

Ian Brambs had a goal and three assists to lead the Eaglets, followed by Drake Chwalibog with two goals and an assist, James Maher with two goals. Tom Pellerito, Taylor Docking, Drew Schupbach and Doug Boyd also scored for St. Mary's (16-4).

St. Mary's will play Warren De La Salle (10-7) on Saturday at 7 pm at Pontiac Notre Dame Prep.
