Brother Rice beats up OLSM

By David Parr, MLive.com

BIRMINGHAM -- Brother Rice dominated virtually every facet of the game tonight, outscoring OLSM 24-3.  A shorthanded St Mary's team was no match for a polished, aggressive Rice team.  OLSM coach Greg Normand wasn't surprised by the outcome and thought that his young team would learn from this game what it was going to take to be successful later in the year.  Coach Normand said, “The only thing that surprised me today was to see Rice's starting attack in the game up by 20 late in the forth quarter.  They are a good team and we didn't have enough to compete with them today”.  He noted that on a day that he was missing his top attack and top defender in senior captains Doug Boyd (out for the season with a broken leg) and PJ Walters that his team played hard until the final horn sounded.

The lone bright spot for OLSM was the play of junior Spencer McInnis.  Spencer dominated the faceoff spot today, winning 14 of 20, proving once again that he may be the top faceoff guy in the state this year.  He also contributed 2 goals and an assist on a day that OLSM didn't have possession in the offensive zone very frequently.

St Mary's plays Plymouth next at OLSM on Tuesday
