St. Mary's rowers triumph again
WYANDOTTE--The Orchard Lake St. Mary's rowing crew posted back to back victories at the annual Hebda Cup and Wy-Hi regattas recently.
St. Mary's posted 42 points to retain the title they have held for more than a decade at the Hebda Cup. The team posted first place finishes in five of the 16 races.
Leading the way was the men's junior 4 group with coxswain Mike Moran and oarsmen Jonathan Misch, John Conners, Tim Simon and Scott Catanzaro. The men's novice 8 with coxswain John Miskena and oarsmen Tom Stachelski, Mike Lucas, Andrew McNary, Aaron Koski, Carl Goeckel, Alex Goodroe, David Trudeau and Ian Silveria also took first.
Coxswain John Miskena and oarsmen Andrew McNary, Mike Lucas, Aaron Koski and Ian Silveria comprised the winning men's novice 4.
Oarsmen Jonathan Misch, Tim Simon, Scott Catanzaro, John Conners, Justin Summers, James Shubert, Chad Cummings and Stuart Langner along with coxswain Mike Moran comprised the winning men's junior 8 team.
Coxswain Justin Elwood and oarsmen Matthew Rejc, Michael Watson, Drew Richards and Ryan Estes were the winning men's lightweight 4 squad.
The men's lightweight 8 and the senior 8 crew each took second.
At the Wy-Hi event, St. Mary's scored 144 points to retain its title for the 13th straight year. Posting three first-place finishes, two second-place finishes and a third helped lead the Eaglets.
Coxswain Mike Moran and oarsmen Jonathan Misch, John Conners, Tim Simon and Scott Catanzaro made up the winning men's junior 4 group. Coxswain Mike Moran and oarsmen Jonathan Misch, Tim Simon, Scott Catanzaro, John Conners, Justin Summers, James Shubert, Chad Cummings and Stuart Langner made up the victorious men's junior 8 group.
Oarsmen Matthew Rejc, Michael Watson, Drew Richards, Ryan Estes, and coxswain Justin Elwood comprised the winning men's 140-pound 4 group.
The Eaglets, who were without their seniors who were participating in graduation ceremonies, placed third in the Midwest Rowing Championships in Columbus, Ohio.
