ORCHARD LAKE — On Saturday morning, April 21st, the St. Mary's Crew Eaglets hosted St. Ignatius of Cleveland on Orchard Lake in the First Annual Canfield Cup Regatta. Over a course covering the north side of the lake for slightly over a mile, four and eight man boats competed for an overall points trophy. St. Ignatius jumped to a slight lead in points in the early competition in four man boats, then stepped out in the eights competition, winning four of six races, to take the Cup by a score of 51-30.

St. Mary's showed strength though in the heavy boats, winning the heavy four, the double sculls, the second heavy eight, and the first heavy eight. Said Head Coach John Ray, "it shows some areas where we need to improve in the next few weeks. Fortunately, in the novice events, dramatic improvement is still possible."

The Eaglets will go on to race for the Michigan State Championship at the Hebda Cup Regatta in Wyandotte April 28, and will meet St. Ignatius again at the Midwest Regatta in Cincinnati on May 13.

Results: winners for the small boat events, times for the eights.
