St. Mary's host 2nd Annual Canfield Cup

ORCHARD LAKE--The crew at Orchard Lake St. Mary's will be hosting its second annual Canfield Cup Regatta on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at 9 am. The public is invited to come down to the boat house on Orchard Lake on the St. Mary's campus and enjoy the festivities and some superlative racing.
St. Mary's will be hosting St. Ignatius of Cleveland, Ohio . These crews are characteristically two of the best in the Midwest . St Ignatius had a very good season last year winning the Midwest Regional's to St. Mary's respectable fourth place finish. The St. Mary's crew has been working hard all fall and winter to reverse that situation.
Under sunny skies and beautiful rowing conditions, the crew of St. Ignatius took the Canfield Cup away from the grounds of St. Mary's last season with an exciting victory. St. Mary's head coach John Ray and his crew would like very much to have the Canfield Cup spend the next year in residence at St. Mary's.
“We've got a great group of young men and we have been working very hard… I like our chances for the upcoming matchup with Coach Previts and the St. Ignatius crew.” said John Ray.
The St. Mary's crew looks to have as many supporters as possible to come and cheer them on to victory. Rowing is an up and coming sport in the Midwest; it is a beautiful sport for the spectator and is exciting as well.
Racing starts April 19 at 9 am, weather permitting, there is no cost for admission.
