George Porritt -- Athletic Director, Head Football and Basketball Coach

Coach Porritt graduated from Clarkston High School in 1975. An All-State quarterback, he went on to play his college career at Hillsdale College, where he was Captain of the "Chargers" his senior year. He graduated in 1979. After graduation, he was an assistant basketball coach at Hillsdale College for five years.
He came to St. Mary's Preparatory in 1986 as an Assistant Football Coach under Rob Hager. In 1989, Coach Porritt took over the reigns as the Head Football Coach of the "Eaglets." Since Coach Porritt has been Head Football Coach, his Eaglet teams have compiled an impressive record, which includes nine League Championships, nine Prep Bowl victories, seven District Titles, eight Regional Titles, eight Semifinal appearances, four State Runner-Up spots (2001, 2004, 2007, 2009) and three State Championships (1994, 1999, 2000).
Coach Porritt's teams have also had four perfect 9-0 regular seasons (1993, 1994, 1997, 2005). His Eaglets had a string of 23 consecutive regular season victories and were ranked 14th in the final U.S.A. Today Poll in 1994. His record now stands at 182 wins and 52 losses. In Catholic League competition, Coach Porritt is 68-23. He is the all-time winningest football coach at St. Mary's Preparatory.
In January 2007, Coach Porritt was a member of the coaching staff for the U.S. Army Football All-American Bowl in San Antonio, Texas. In November 2007, he was selected as Catholic League Central Division Coach of the Year, MHSAA Division 3 Regional Coach of the Year, and was recognized with the Gold Award for his excellence in coaching by his alma mater, Hillsdale College. In 2005, Coach Porritt was nominated for the National Football League's High School Coach of the Year Award. In 2001, he was named All-Metro Detroit Coach of the Year. In 2010, he was named as Catholic League Athletic Director of the Year.
In his tenure as Head Basketball Coach of the Eaglets, Coach Porritt has won ten League Championships, six Catholic League Titles, three Detroit City Titles, nine Districts, four Regionals and one State Title (2000). His coaching record is 257 wins and 120 losses. He has been named as Catholic League Coach of the Year in 2004 and 2006.
Coach Porritt was also the Head Lacrosse Coach in 1997 and 1998, and his Eaglet teams won 2 State Class "B" Titles. He was named MHSAA Coach of the Year in 1998. His coaching record is 53 wins and 24 losses.
George and his wife Terry live in Clarkston and have three children, Kenneth (Prep '04), Marilyn (Clarkston '07) and Mason, a junior at St. Mary's Preparatory.
