Nick Di Ponio - Varsity Head Baseball Coach
Coach Di Ponio has served five seasons (97-78-1) as the head baseball coach of the Eaglets. In those five seasons, he has guided the Eaglets to five district championships, three regional championships, one league championship, and twice as Division II State Runners Up (2007 and 2009). In addition, Coach Di Ponio was named the 2007 Catholic League Coach of the Year. As head coach, he has also helped nine graduating seniors move on to play at the collegiate level.
Before taking the head coaching position at St. Mary's, Coach Di Ponio played for the Eaglets from 1994-1998. While at St. Mary's, Coach Di Ponio led the 1998 baseball team to its first state championship in school history. He was named to the 1998 All-State Dream Team. Coach Di Ponio continued his baseball career at Oakland University, and finished each season as one of its leading hitters. In 2002 he was named to the All Mid-Continent Conference Team. He currently holds several individual offensive records for the Grizzlies. Coach Di Ponio graduated from Oakland University in 2003 with a Bachelor's in Finance. Following his collegiate career at Oakland University, Coach Di Ponio continued his baseball career overseas in the Italian Professional Baseball League for four seasons. In 2002 he was a member of the San Marino Baseball Club that participated in the European Baseball Cup in Barcelona, Spain.
Coach Di Ponio and his wife, Lisa, were married in 2004, and welcomed their first son, Gaetano "Guy" Joseph, on November 1, 2007. They reside in Milford, Michigan.
