Rice edges St. Mary's in Catholic track dual

BIRMINGHAM--A sweep in the field events on Monday helped Brother Rice beat Orchard Lake St. Mary's, 70-58. The Warriors maintained their perfect dual-meet record in the Catholic League track and field standings.
The Warriors took sole possession of first place in the league with a 5-0 record. St. Mary's suffered its first loss and is now 4-1.
Brother Rice had four different field event winners, including Amani DuPerry in the high jump (6-foot-2), Caulton Ray in the long jump (20-feet), Rick Smith in the shot put (45-foot-5) and Brian Wing in the discus (125-5).
In the track events, Anthony Wile (mile), DuPerry (low hurdles), Nick Thomas (800 run) and Mike Murphy (two mile) were winners. Rice's mile relay foursome of DuPerry, Thomas, Bryant White and Michael Belton won in 3:39.4.
Taurian Washington sprinted to victory in the 100 (11.0) and 200 (22.4) for St. Mary's, while Justin Siller won the high hurdles and Tayler Peruski broke the tape in the 400. The Eaglets also took the 3,200, 800 and 400 relays.
